Michael D. Youngblood
Dr. Youngblood has been a participant in the U.S. mortgage securities market since 1980. A Marshall Scholar and PhD in economic history, he has built his career at the intersection of finance, data science, and innovation. He actively managed a portfolio of more than $1 billion of agency mortgage securities from 1981 to 1985. In this capacity, he originated several of the earliest Fannie Mae Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) and Freddie Mac Guarantor Participation Certificates (PC) in December 1981 (the fourth and twelfth, respectively). Subsequently, he managed residential mortgage research from 1986 to 2008 for Salomon Brothers, Inc.; Daiwa Securities America Inc.; Smith Barney Inc.; Chase Securities Inc.; Banc of America Securities LLC; GMAC-RFC Securities Inc.; and Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group Inc. He held NASD series 7, 63, and 24 and NYSE series 16 securities licenses. He wrote many of the first research reports on innovations in mortgage securities and wrote the first case studies of the leading non-agency lenders. Also, he developed five residential and multifamily mortgage conduits with these firms, and sponsored the development of the first comprehensive database of subprime mortgage loans and securities with LoanPerformance of San Francisco in 1996 and 1997. From 2008 through 2018, he was principal and co-founder of Five Bridges Advisors, LLC, where he was responsible for mortgage and housing research, econometric modeling and model validation, risk management, mortgage loan and securities validation, and information technology. Radian Group Inc. acquired substantially all of the assets of Five Bridges Advisors, LLC in December 2018.
Dr. Youngblood lives in Arlington, Virginia, where he continues to write, advise, and explore new applications of data science in finance and beyond.
